Two Lights for Tomorrow is a nationwide initiative to commence the commemoration of the 250th birthday of the United States of America. (CT250.org)
After sunset on April 18, 2025, let's all display two lights on our houses, places of worship, businesses and other buildings as a reminder that to have a light shining out in the darkness was important 250 years ago and for tomorrow!
April 18-19th is the 250th anniversary of the midnight rides of William Dawes, Paul Revere and Samuel Prescott. The signal of two lights in the tower of the Old North Church back then is finding new life as we "use the imagery of that shining light today as a uniting call to action for our citizens to celebrate and serve." On April 19th starting around 2:30 pm, you'll see men and women in Revolutionary War period attire (and even Redcoats) walking about the green as we prepare for a rider from Boston with news about the battles at Lexington and Concord! At 3pm we'll all gather in front of the First Litchfield Congregational Church, the riders will narrowly avoid the Crown Troops to get through and we will sound the alarm from the steeple! Bells will ring from at least 3 churches in town and we will honor the names of the men from Litchfield who responded to the actual alarm in 1775 saluted by the First Litchfield Artillery cannon and SAR muskets. (Bring ear plugs.)
You are welcome to participate as we "do history" in this powerful place! Just Contact Us to learn how.
FYI: Anyone who attends will receive an official pass for 10% off food on the 19th at restaurants on the green so bring your family!
